Sakis Petropoulos as a composer with his unique and versatile style can’t easily fit in categories. From film music to contemporary classical and from traditional greek to haunting electronic music, always manages to capture the imagination with his personal style of writing.
Sakis has composed music for feature films with names like Eric Roberts, Tom Sizemore, Costas Mandylor and others.
He has been awarded for his film music in film festivals in Los Angeles and in New York.
As a musician he has performed in Latin America and in Europe,
He has collaborated with decorated artists of many styles like Israel Varela (Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Yo Yo Ma etc), Dimitris Kotronakis, Apostolos Palios, Michalis Kalkanis, Grigorian Nranis and others.
He is the Artistic Director of Elefsis Conservatory that holds many seminars and festivals with distinguished artists from all over the world.
He is a multi instrumentalist and a teacher for over 30 years.
Born in Athens, Sakis Petropoulos began studying classical guitar at the age of nine. In 2001, he graduated from the National Conservatory of Athens, with Professor Kyriakos Mitrokotsas, with high degree of virtuosity and three years later was graduated as a soloist with a A' Prize award.
He studied Musicology at the Music Department of the Philosophical School of Kapodistrian University of Athens, while he got his Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and Orchestration Degree with excellence.
He studied composition with Harvard Phd and Berkley Professor Alexandros Kalogeras and Professor in Aristotle University Christos Samaras.
He has a Master's Degree in Composition for Film, Theater and Performing Arts, in Ionian University under the supervision of Dimitris Maragopoulos.
He took classes and attended seminars with professors like Oscar Ghiglia, Elena Papandreou, Nikita Koshkin, David Russel, Roberto Aussell, Frederick Hand, Jorge Morel, Ricardo Gallen, Marco Tamayo, Annielo Desiderio, Zoran Dukic, Costas Cotsiolis, Apostolos Paraskevas, (Classical Guitar), George Hadjinikos, Theodor Antoniou, (Composition and Interpretation), Michalis Oikonomou (Conducting), Christos Tzifakis (Flamenco guitar), Makis Amplianitis and Grigoris Danis (jazz guitar).
From 2001 to 2003 he was the Artistic Director of Nea Peramos Music Festival where music from many genres and Video Art projects had taken place.
His music for the George Nichols silent film "Cinderella" (1911) was performed in Old University of Athens as well as the Historical Museum of Athens and other cities all over Greece.
He has given many recital all over Greece, Europe and Latin America, as a solo artist, as well as with several bands where he is experimenting with different styles of music like rock, blues, funk, soul, jazz, ethnic, and playing also other instruments, such as drums, percussion, bass, bouzouki,oud, tzouras, etc.
On May 2008, he was asked from Department of Foreign Affairs to represent Greece as a soloist in the European Festival which was taking place in Brazilia, Brazil. At that time he also played for the Brazilian Television (TV SENADO) and for the brazilian Radio Super FM, Brazilia.
He has over thirty years teaching experience and his students have distinguished in competitions all over Greece.
He is the artistic director of the Elefsis Conservatory-Sakis Petropoulos.
As a composer his chamber and orchestral music works have performed in Athens and in other cities of Greece.
As a film composer he has worked in feature films, short films, animation and advertisements.
He has collaborated with directors such as Aurelio Agliata, Michael Eric, Geebran Warchausky and others.
He has been awarded with two awards in New York Movie Awards and in FFTG Film Festival for his music for the feature film C.L.E.A.N starring Tom Sizemore and Costas Mandylor for DreamTeam Pictures.
He has also scored family drama features like Family Hug starring Eric Roberts.
